Christian greetings to you all in Jesus’ Name.
I am just from the Champions meeting, and also planning to attend the Joy Kitchens meeting soon. Because of time and activities that I need to attend to, I find it a privilege to share with you reports on the activities that have happened in Kager Village, and this should be my May report. May was significant to us, since we had another transformation take place. This was the distribution of the Fireless Basket Cooker.
JOY KITCHENS
The JOY Kitchens women’s groups have been meeting so well since they began. Their meetings during the month of May was well done. They have been learning from the Bible about Faith in relation to showing concern and Love to others. During the month, they made a small Tree Nursery, to begin the planting of trees within Kager. The trees have not germinated so well as expected, and they are now consulting with experts on this. For those trees which have germinated, they will organize on how to distribute the seedlings for transplanting.
The two women’s groups of Joy Kitchens have begun a program where they bring their bi-weekly contribution to strengthen their groups. They have a program to buy T-Shirts printed with the JOY Kitchen initials, for identity, and I find this makes them so excited.
We were able to distribute the Fireless Basket Cookers, and the reports we have received are overwhelming. Everyone who has used the Fireless Basket Cooker has a very positive report. Most of the foods have been tried and they are all and wonderfully cooked. Today in our meeting, most of the Champions shared their experience with this type of cooker, and have confirmed that it works. The Champions are thinking that when the training for making this will be done, many household will be able to learn and get this cooker.
Arrangements have been made with Charles Langat, for training on Home Canning. We expect this to happen early July 2009, and the JOY Kitchens group will be trained on how to do this. As the sea container arrives with the canning jars next week, this is going to be a very successful program.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
We are happy to share that the first Kijiji (Village) Bank lendee, Rose Omanya, has accepted the revised business plan that our Team Indiana Partner Brian Burgess, did develop. We expect that she is going to be the first beneficiary of this program, and others will come by. The Champions see the need of having some training done to some people in the community on how to write a business plan and other skills on business, and then these people would help the village on how to write this. We agreed that I will go ahead with the arrangement to have training for this purpose. This is so important, as the program is attracting many people, hence a need for better training.
The Champions Team has also identified about ten people who should participate in the Microenterprise to make and sell Fireless Basket Cookers in Kager and surrounding villages. The qualities they used in this selection are: Business Oriented, Available, Faithful and Trustworthy, Teachable and Responsible. They will be consulted and informed about the training, and what is expected of them. The Champions show that it was not wise to have the JOY Kitchens groups again participate in this, to avoid outcry from the villagers, of poor selection and participation from others. The need to balance our program so that everyone feels involve was really checked. We hope to move ahead with the training on this, and begin an enterprise of the same.
PRAYER
Prayer was offered to the Partners and their June 9th meeting.
We prayed for John Cory and his Son Charlie for their trip to Kenya.
We prayed for the safe arrival of the Container.
We prayed for Kager Medical Dispensary
We prayed for the whole village of Kager.
As I write this report, I am equally over joyous at what the Lord is doing here. It is amazing to see what no one expected would take place in Kager, happening. The Lord has increased the zeal of my fellow Champions, and I am happy for the motivation done to them. This Month is going to be so busy, and I ask for your prayers and strength.
The Lord’s blessings be with you.
